An increasing number of people in the U.S. have been reported to die while choking on their own vomit while intoxicated.
According to the Core Institute, an organization that surveys college drinking practices, 300,000 of today's college students will eventually die of alcohol-related causes such as drunk driving accidents, cirrhosis of the liver, various cancers and heart disease.
An estimated 10 to 35% of heavy drinkers develop alcoholic hepatitis, and 10 to 20% develop cirrhosis.
Alcohol oxidizes when it gets into the human system; this process occurs at the rate of an ounce in two or three hours. For 100-proof whisky, which is up to fifty per cent alcohol, this would mean that 8 ounces of whisky would be gone from the body in less than 12 hours; most of the alcohol would be breathed away, but some of it would be lost through sweat or urine.
